Older Fire Sticks
Older Fire Sticks (the ones that ask you to log in instead of pairing with a 4-digit code) run a legacy version of the SignPresenter app. They still work, but they struggle with some videos. Here's how to tell, and what to do about it.
How to tell if you have an older Fire Stick
You'll know you have a legacy device if SignPresenter requires you to log in instead of pairing the Fire Stick from the website with a 4-digit code.
The biggest symptom is that some videos will fail to play smoothly, or you'll see a screen like this:

Recommended fix: upgrade the Stick
The cleanest solution is to replace the device with a current-generation Fire TV Stick HD — about $25 and fully compatible.
Workaround: lower the resolution
If you can't upgrade right away, you can reduce the issue (not eliminate it) by lowering the Stick's output resolution.
-
Press Home on the Fire Stick remote to exit SignPresenter.

-
Open Settings.

-
Open Display & Sounds.

-
Open Display.

-
Open Video Resolution.

-
Pick a lower resolution (720p instead of 1080p, for example).

-
Confirm — the screen will flash briefly and apply the change.
